Greetings Friends,

One of the most enjoyable aspects of gaming is attending a LAN party. Gamers from all over come together to play in the same room. Sometimes it is the same game, sometimes it’s every person for themselves, yet either way, the gaming community gathering together is a highlight for most.
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a LAN party that gathered in support of Veterans of Foreign War— Yes! You read that right. This gathering had people gathered to game and raise funds for this charity! (If you’d like to donate, let me know and I’ll send you to the right place).
While participating, something stood out to me. There wasn’t a certain demographic of people gaming (we often think of gaming as a hobby for children or adults who aren’t growing up), but there were those who were veterans who were older (think 50’s & 60’s). I had the honor of meeting them, hearing about their lives, and anything else they wanted to talk with me about.
I realized that even I had to challenge my own assumptions and put to death any that caused me to think wrongly about another person or group of people.
If you’re like me, you’ve probably made assumptions about others as well. I’ve learned that I have to hold my
assumptions with an open hand, be willing to let them go and not base any truth on them-because they’re not always based in reality. When we are willing to see people for who they are, listen to their stories and learn what makes them tick, it opens up the doors for true and good gospel conversations.
And isn’t that our whole purpose anyway? Be witnesses of the love of Jesus in the lives of others—no matter who they are or what we think about them.
What a glorious calling.
