This last week, for the second year in a row, we held a mini-conference for all of the various touring ministries of AJM. We like to call it the “Gathering of the bands”. One year ago we all met up in San Diego for a whirlwind one-day event. It was information overload as we all sat together and discussed how and why we go on tour. It was clear at the end of that day; one way it fell short was that it was actually just too short!

So this year we all came together at the AJM HQ in Modesto, California on Wednesday night. We did not leave until Saturday afternoon. It was incredible. Each time we sat down together we were working through sections of Philippians chapter 2. Our focus was on how to be operating in unity as we tour the world. I sat in amazement as I watched the Holy Spirit bring greater depths of humility, joy, and unity to a team that God has clearly assembled.

Last year there were about twenty of us that gathered. This year more than forty adults came together over the course of the days. While the mornings and afternoons were spent focused on more of the logistics of touring, finances, and fundraising; our evenings were filled with times of worship, prayer, prophecy, and encouragement. I left Modesto Saturday to drive home with an overwhelming sense of excitement — knowing that these forty people will be spending the next twelve months being the church in the world.

You have to understand — this is the crew that literally packs up their bags, leaves their homes for months at a time, and goes to do the work of the Gospel, regardless of the personal cost it demands of them. To be surrounded by that many full-time, sold-out people is incredibly humbling. The amount of sacrifice represented in that room at any given moment truly inspires me to continue the work to which we are called. These people all do this because they have counted the cost of it. And when you really, truly count the eternal cost, it is worth every earthly penny they choose to go without.

If you’ve not hosted one of our bands or touring ministries, you should consider it this year. You can have them come to your church, or invite them to your city to do a concert and share the Gospel. Even if it’s just to have them into your home for a meal, I promise you that their commitment to the work of the Gospel will challenge you to be more missional. They challenge me to that task every single day.

Thank you to those of you who made the time to join us at the AJM HQ last week. We are praying for you as you head into 2020, and I can’t wait to see what God does through you as you hit the road to equip the found and find the lost!
