When I was in high school I watched the documentary Invisible children, about Child soldiers in Uganda. While I was watching this documentary the Lord compelled me like never before; He told me that I needed to go and serve in Africa. That summer (2013) I went to Eswatini (formerly called Swaziland) for three months to serve in an orphanage. During my trip, the people of Eswatini stole my heart completely. God began to give me His heart for these beautiful people.
I returned again in 2016 for a two month trip and would have stayed there permanently, if I did not have commitments I had to fulfill back home. During those two months, God confirmed his call upon my life to return to Africa and serve the people of Eswatini full time. God spoke to me from His Word “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28: 19-20.
The Lord has put the young women of Eswatini deeply into my heart. My mission while there is to disciple these women in their faith and provide shelter for women and children who have suffered abuse. My hope is to open a coffee shop so these women have a source of income in a safe environment; and at the same time, use this shop as a way to share the Gospel with the community. During my time in Eswatini I saw how local businesses like these brought people together and provided an environment for relationship building and the cultural importance of coffee and tea.
