Change Along the Way

We are in a new chapter of life. A transition. Change. We call it a lot of different things, but it doesn’t take away the difficulty of what we experience as it happens to us. It’s difficult for us to change when we are only focused on the negative things that could happen to us along the way, but change is good when we focus on the positive things that God will do along the way.
Along the way. God is with us. Along the way, He is there. Along the way, there is always a lesson that we can choose to share. And I want to share just a little lesson that I have learned along the way with Christ as my teacher.
Christ’s purpose for us is to become more like Him. If we’ve made the decision to follow Jesus, this is His purpose for us. He wants us to be like Him in word and action. That requires changes in us. Because we are sinful. On our best day, we will be unlike Christ in every and any way. But, with Christ in us, we are made new and filled with His love. However, this requires obedience to His will. We cannot remain the same. We must act according to the change He makes in us. This could mean drastic changes in our lives. It could even mean moving to a different place, with a different culture, and a different language than what we know.
For Mercedes and I this change came unexpectedly. Even though we knew that God was calling us to something new, we didn’t expect it to happen when it did, much less where it did, but God called us and now we are trying to walk in obedience to this call. And it’s not as easy as we thought it would be. It’s causing us to give up things we didn’t know we would have to give up: family, friends, home. Things that really mean a lot to us. But this is the call. And if this is the call, we need to be obedient. Because in the end we know that this change is for the best and in this change, He is changing us to be more like Him.
So in this new chapter in Punta de Palma, Izabal, Guatemala you may see God changing us, for His glory, in ways only He can.
